Occupational Health and Safety

UNSW's aim is to provide a safe, healthy and secure learning and working environment for all students, staff, contractors and visitors. To achieve this goal, everyone has a shared responsibility for ensuring that their actions do not adversely affect the health, safety and welfare of themselves or others. The university has laid out these goals in its OHS policy. The policy applies to all staff, students, visitors and contractors of UNSW.

The GSBME is committed to providing the highest standard of Occupational Health and Safety [OHS] to fulfill our duty of care. This will be achieved through the compliance with the UNSW Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS). An OHSMS is a set of plans, actions and procedures to manage health and safety in the workplace. The GSBME OHS management system will be documented, implemented, maintained, reviewed and communicated to all staff, students, visitors and contractors within GSBME who are all required to work within this OHSMS. All staff, students, contractors and visitors are expected to:
  • comply with UNSW OHS policies and Faculty procedures at all times
  • conduct all research and teaching in a safe manner that ensures no harm can come to other persons, property or the environment
  • cooperate with UNSW, Faculty and School management in the development, implementation and maintenance of safe working procedures and practices
  • participate in all levels of training programs
  • immediately report hazards and incidents

OHS Procedures

OHS procedures to assist in managing the risks at GSBME can be located at Safe Work Procedures and Standard Operating Procedures (UniPass Login required).

OHS Induction

All staff, students and visitors must complete an induction before they can work on Level 4. To book an induction, contact Veronika Tatarinoff.
